What is the WCPW?
Origins
The West Coast Plato Workshop was started in 2008 by Rachana Kamtekar and Jan Szaif. They hosted the first meeting at UC Davis, with papers focusing on the text of Theaetetus.
Friendly Character
WCPW has been a beloved ancient philosophy workshop ever since, with scholars of all levels, from graduate students to emeritus professors, sharing their interpretations of Plato in a collegial and sunny (or maybe cloudy, in the years that Pacific Northwest institutions host) environment.
Grassroots Organization
Hosts are volunteers who coordinate with their home institution to bring a band of Plato scholars to their campus in late spring or early summer. The annual business meeting of the WCPW, scheduled and held during each year's workshop, is the principal site of planning and steering for future workshops. If you are interested in hosting, please let us know!
